5 locations considered for Rockville Confederate statue
News

ROCKVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Five different locations, all with a connection to the Civil War, are being considered as the future home for a Confederate statue in Rockville.

The five locations are the Beall-Dawson Historical Park in Rockville, the Darnestown Square Heritage Park in Darnestown, the Calithea Farm Special Park in Potomac, the Jesup Blair Local Park in Silver Spring and Edgehill Farm in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett has been working to remove the statue from its current location outside the Rockville courthouse. The statue was boxed up after the words 'Black Lives Matter' were spray painted on it.

The county is asking residents to email them their thoughts on the statue's new location. The deadline for emails is September 9, and Leggett will make a presentation to the Historic District Commission on September 17. Messages about the statue can be sent to county.council@montgomerycountymd.gov
