Woman dies in Rockville crash after driving without headlights

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman died after police say she was traveling at a high rate of speed without any headlights on early Saturday in Rockville.

The woman has been identified as Penelope Ann Garland, 68, of Woodbine, police said.

The accident about at around 12:05 a.m. on Georgia Avenue approaching Maryland Route 200. Police say Garland was traveling at a high rate of speed and did not have on the car's headlights.

For reasons unknown, police say the car left the roadway and hit a traffic pole.

Garland was transported to a local hospital where police say she later died.

This investigation is ongoing, police said.
