ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man is dead after a crash involving a Ride-On bus and motorcycle on Rockville Pike and South Drive Wednesday morning, officials said.

Crews responded to a crash involving a bus and a Suzuki motorcycle on Rockville Pike and South Drive Wednesday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said. No passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident.

The crash happened around 6:11 a.m. at Rockville Pike at South Drive, officials said.

WUSA9's Nikki Burdine reports that a 35-year-old Virginia man driving southbound in the center lane of Rockville Pike tried to avoid hitting a bus, however ran into the side of it. The bus was going northbound on Rockville Pike trying to turn left into NIH. It is still not clear at this time who was at fault. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified the man as Francis G. Plati Jr., 35, of Stafford, Va.

Due to this accident and the police activity in the area, patients may be delayed getting to their appointments at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Two northbound lanes of Rockville Pike are now open and one southbound lane is open.

The crash remains under investigation.
