Rockville double murder happened during burglary

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police continued their round-the-clock investigation into the Mother's Day murders of two Montgomery County grandparents Tuesday. Neighbors have grown increasingly uneasy about the unsolved, unexplained violence in their tranquil, exurban neighborhood.

A Montgomery County Police Department spokesman labeled the crime a burglary, but said it remained unclear what, if anything, was taken from the home of victims Dick and Jody Vilardo.

A source close to the investigation told WUSA9 that detectives found a large, messy crime scene indicative of a violent struggle, which made it difficult to tell what might be missing.

Outside the Vilardos' modest home in a wealthy neighborhood, detectives could be seen walking through the woods, looking for evidence until sundown. At 9 p.m., evidence collection vans arrived and investigators searched the backyard by flashlight for more than an hour.

11 transported after carbon monoxide exposure in Md.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Eleven constructions workers were transported to the hospital with carbon monoxide exposure Monday, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials said.

High levels of carbon monoxide were reported at a construction site located at 14935 Southlawn Lane, officials said.

The likely cause of the buildup was the operation of concrete finishers inside without a vent, officials said.

The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. In the meantime, Montgomery County Fire is ventilating the building.
